Paco Zazueta is a Mexican singer, songwriter, and businessman who first became widely known after appearing on La Academia in 2011. He is also recognized as the husband of actress Melissa Barrera, but his own career goes beyond that connection. Over the years, he has released music under both Paco Zazueta and Xavier Zazueta, while also maintaining ties to his family’s meat business in Sonora.
One reason information about Paco Zazueta can be confusing is that his newer music is usually released under the name Xavier Zazueta, while his older recordings still appear under Paco Zazueta. Current music platforms connect both names to the same performer, who was born on January 22, 1987, in Ciudad Obregón, Sonora.

Who Is Paco Zazueta?
Paco Zazueta is the professional name many people still use for Francisco Xavier Zazueta Muñoz, a Mexican singer from Ciudad Obregón in the state of Sonora. He became known to a national television audience when he competed on La Academia in 2011.
Episode records from that season list Xavier Zazueta with the credit “as Paco Zazueta,” which helps confirm that both names refer to the same performer. This is important because his older music is usually listed under Paco Zazueta, while much of his later work appears under Xavier Zazueta.
His public career has developed in two main areas. He continued working in music after La Academia, first under the name Paco and later as Xavier. At the same time, he remained connected to Carnes Zazueta, a family meat business based in Ciudad Obregón.
His marriage to Melissa Barrera later brought his name to a much wider international audience as her acting career grew, but Zazueta already had his own background in music and television before their relationship became widely known.
Early Life and Education
Paco Zazueta was born on January 22, 1987, in Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, Mexico. Apple Music’s current Xavier Zazueta profile lists the same birth date and hometown, which helps connect his newer stage name with the earlier Paco Zazueta identity.
Several biography websites report that he attended Colegio Teresiano de la Vera-Cruz and later studied business administration at TecMilenio University. However, I did not find an official university record or a first-person source confirming those education details during this research. For that reason, they are best treated as reported information rather than fully verified facts.
His business background is easier to document. The official Carnes Zazueta website explains that the family business began in Ciudad Obregón in 1971, when Don Xavier Zazueta opened a butcher shop called Carnicería Guerrero. Over time, the business developed into the Carnes Zazueta brand, which now promotes its products in both Mexico and the United States.
La Academia Gave Him His National Break
Paco Zazueta’s biggest early career breakthrough came in 2011 when he appeared on La Academia. The reality music competition gave him national television exposure and introduced him to a much larger audience before the release of his first studio album.
The show also played an important role in his personal life because it was where he met Melissa Barrera. Barrera has spoken publicly about the difficult environment of the competition and said that she and Zazueta supported each other while dealing with the pressure.
Their relationship therefore began before either of them reached the level of recognition they later achieved. They were both young performers trying to build careers while competing on the same television program.
Paco Zazueta’s Music Career
After his appearance on La Academia, Zazueta released his self-titled album Paco Zazueta on October 26, 2012. Amazon Music lists 12 tracks on the album, including “Así es la vida,” “Hazme olvidarla,” “Sentirme vivo,” “Para amarnos más,” and “Te lo pido por favor.”
The album also included “No Me Puedo Escapar de Ti,” a duet with Melissa Barrera. The record remains available on major streaming platforms under the Paco Zazueta name.
His later music career is where many online biographies become incomplete or outdated. By the early 2020s, he was releasing new work as Xavier Zazueta rather than Paco Zazueta.
In 2022, he released the album Disfraz de Amigo, which contains 12 tracks and is categorized as música mexicana. His current Apple Music profile also lists several songs released in 2023, including “Ni La Pensaste,” “Salud Y Pa’ Delante,” “Dulce Pecado,” and “Y Si Te Vas Con Él.”
In a 2023 MundoNow interview, Zazueta discussed working with Fonovisa and preparing music in the sierreño style. He also spoke about regional Mexican music as an important part of his musical interests. That interview is especially useful because it clearly identifies Xavier Zazueta as the same former La Academia contestant who is married to Melissa Barrera.
The most recent widely indexed recording I found is “Mi Ángel,” credited to Xavier Zazueta, Jaime Lozano & The Familia on the 2025 album Songs By An Immigrant Vol. 3.
As of September 2026, I did not find a clearly verified solo single or album released by him in 2026 on the major music platforms checked.

Paco Zazueta and Melissa Barrera
Paco Zazueta and Melissa Barrera first met while appearing on La Academia in 2011. Their relationship began during the competition and continued after the show ended.
In June 2017, Radio Fórmula reported that Zazueta proposed to Barrera at the Empire State Building in New York City while the couple were with family. They later married in February 2019.
Barrera has spoken publicly about the importance of their relationship in her life. In a 2022 interview with the Associated Press, she said that her husband helped her become more comfortable with communication, trust, and expressing her emotions.
That first-person account gives a clearer picture of their relationship than many celebrity biography websites, which often repeat personal claims without strong sourcing.
Music has also been part of their relationship. Barrera appeared with Zazueta on the 2012 song “No Me Puedo Escapar de Ti,” and Zazueta later released a 2019 song and music video called “Melissa.”
Business Work and the Carnes Zazueta Connection
Paco Zazueta is often described online as an entrepreneur because of his connection to Carnes Zazueta. The company’s official history confirms that the Zazueta family has operated the meat business in Ciudad Obregón since 1971.
However, the company website does not clearly state Paco’s current job title. Because of that, claims that he is the CEO or that he independently runs the entire business should not be presented as confirmed facts.
There is also a notable 2026 development connected to the business. A U.S. trademark application for CARNES ZAZUETA USA, filed in February 2026, lists Francisco Xavier Zazueta Munoz as the owner and covers dried meat products.
The name matches the full name commonly associated with Paco Zazueta in public biographies. However, some secondary sources use slightly different versions of his name, including forms that add “Jr.” Because of this small difference, the trademark record is useful evidence of current Zazueta-family business activity in the United States, but it should not be used by itself to assign Paco a specific corporate position.
What Is Paco Zazueta Doing in 2026?
As of 2026, Paco Zazueta continues to have a public presence through his music catalog and business connections, although he keeps a much lower media profile than Melissa Barrera.
His most recent verified music credit found during this research is the 2025 song “Mi Ángel.” His earlier regional Mexican releases under the name Xavier Zazueta also remain available on major streaming platforms.
I did not find a major verified announcement in 2026 about a new solo album, tour, or television project. This is worth mentioning because some biography websites say that he continues releasing music without identifying a recent project.
The safest conclusion is that his confirmed recording activity extends into 2025, while his connection to the Zazueta family business remains relevant in 2026.
How This Was Researched
I researched this Paco Zazueta biography by comparing current biography pages with music-platform records, public interviews, entertainment reporting, the official Carnes Zazueta website, and a 2026 U.S. trademark record. I cross-checked his 2012 album through Amazon Music and Apple Music, then followed his newer releases under the Xavier Zazueta name so the career timeline did not stop with older information. I also used interviews and published reporting connected to Melissa Barrera for relationship details. Where information about his education, net worth, children, or exact business role could not be independently confirmed, I kept those details qualified rather than presenting them as facts.
